Previous Field Trips

At our indoor meeting we will be covering some administrative matters followed by short presentations (digital images) by group members. There will be a quiz. Refreshments will be available.  Everyone welcome.

We will complete a circular walk approx. 2miles around Swinsty Reservoir starting from the car park (Grid ref 187538) where toilets are available. Our route will be on good gravel paths. We are likely to see a variety of birds at this time of the year. Arrangements will be flexible dependent on weather conditions. Please dress warmly.

We will have a walk of up to 3 miles around the estate. Some of the paths are surfaced but there are likely to be some muddy sections. The will be some medium slopes to negotiate. The route will include Coppice Pond, woodland and the bird feeders. We plan to park at the lower car park and to have a café stop where there are toilets (there are also public toilets near the play area).

 We will keep to our traditional format for our New Year Social. There will be an opportunity to review the past year, also look ahead to 2017. Please bring food and drink for all to enjoy. Copies of the 2016 DIARY will be available.

The New Year walk will take us on a 5 mile circuit around the Harewood Estate. For the most part we will be walking on gravelled paths; the route is fairly level apart from a couple of medium slopes. There are no stiles. We haven’t visited the area since 2010 and can expect to see Red Kites and other birds of prey as well as woodland birds. Herds of deer should be another welcome sight. Toilets will be accessed en route. We will park in Harewood village on the roadside of the A659 towards Collingham. Wrap up warmly!

As usual our final outing of the year will be a mystery! The distance covered will not be great. Please make the usual preparations for a day out in the field at this time of year. Departure is from the Unitarian Church Little Horton Bradford (no pickups en route).

Planning Meeting 10am, at YMCA Thornton Road.  

Following our mystery trip here last year, we noted a variety of interesting fungi in the wood, hence the reason for our decision to make this our venue for this year’s foray. We will travel directly to Shibden Park where toilets are available. There are good level paths to the wood with a not too steep hill to climb. Within the wood the paths are reasonably good. Mud could be a problem at this time of year and there are a couple of not too steep slopes to negotiate. For those who do not wish to participate in the foray, admission to Shibden Hall is available for a charge. There are also extensive walks around the park and a café is on site if required.

Our main aim today is to watch the salmon leaping at Stainforth Force. We will park in Stainforth (toilets in car park) and make the half mile walk to the waterfalls. We will then be stationary for some time so come dressed for the less active pastime of hoping to see the fish. We will then walk along the river for just over a mile to look for birds and signs of autumn, meeting the minibus at Langcliffe weir. 

On the way home, striking a different note, we plan to visit Giggleswick School Chapel, which comes highly recommended.
