Apple Juicing At Bradford Apple DayApple Juicing At Bradford Apple Day

Apple Day, held at Bowling Park Community Orchard was a huge success with over 600 people counted through the entrance! This was by far the most popular Apple Day since the orchard began hosting the event 4 years ago.

People enjoyed many apple themed activities. They ate apple food from the apple café, apple bobbed, competed in the longest peel competition and had their own garden apples identified by an expert.

To buy, there were over 20 different kinds of apple, apple trees and apple day bags made of cotton or jute.

Other activities included a demonstration of planting an apple tree and children created greetings cards with collage and went on minibeast hunts and created insect homes.

Our Apple Press was juicing the whole time creating delicious, fresh apple juice for visitors. Apples that went through the press came partly from the orchard and the Bradford Fruitshare Project.

Five children from the YMCA’s Palz CSC project got involved in the whole range of activities and particularly enjoyed pin the maggot on the apple and apple bobbing, games which they also helped to run. They also took part in rating apples by taste to find the day’s favourite apple!
