Maltby Low Common

Today, we believe, is the first time BEES will have visited this YWT site in South Yorkshire. There is a mix of calcareous, acid and neutral grasslands, and it is bordered by woodland and patches of scrub. We hope to see a display of heather, Devil’s-bit Scabious and Grass of Parnassus.
The site is flat, with a short section downhill (and up to return) to enter the reserve. We will walk up to 2.5 miles, but with options to vary this. If the weather is wet the paths are likely to be muddy. Lunch will probably be sitting on the grass, so sit-mats will be a good idea. We will stop at a nearby supermarket for toilets on arrival.
