As pilot project Swainhouse Primary were a long way through the process at the start of this year. They already had vegetable beds for each class to use and fruit trees.
We attended a staff meeting to talk about activities to use in the grounds and to give advice and pracical experience in gardening to build the teacher confidence in using the vegetable beds with their classes. We left a copy of the teachers' pack and other useful resources such as a food growing calendar and sustainable schools poster.
We planted a hedge with a team from Yorkshire Building Society and with children.
The school has big plans for the future.
