Green Lane Primary

We worked with groups of children in auditing the school grounds for wildlife value and now have an exciting plan which includes a whole range of new habitats. We aim to include everybody in the school in bringing this about and have already had help from many different children in giving the Wildlife Garden a makeover. We planted lots of good wildlife plants, native wildflowers, herbs and other good nectar plants for butterflies that will also give the area a cottage garden feel.

In the winter we undertook an ambitious tree planting project involving every child in planting a mixed native hedge around the field. In this we were assisted by a BEES volunteer day.

Another BEES volunteer day in March helped us prepare for fruit tree planting and created a bog garden ready for planting up. The fruit trees were planted by children from the school along with their famillies. Nursery and reception children later helped to plant the bog garden and some meadow flowers.

The next project is the construction of a vegetable garden, raised beds, compost bins and seating area.
